i agree with the statement itself. it makes me wonder about other nuances: "don't mind him. he's just being himself." or "don't worry. just be yourself." with the first, it's an excuse for some sort of "odd" behavior (similar to your quote). with the second, it could be an attempt to counter overly self-conscious or self-analytical behavior. does saying, "just be yourself" help with that though? ... hrmm...
